Introduction Doing research for my Joe Burgess police procedural series, I discovered the amazing world of true crime when a research trip to the Portland, Maine police department led me to co-write the inside story of a murder investigation with Portland, Maine Deputy Chief Joseph Loughlin. The result was Finding Amy: A True Story of Murder in Maine. The book was an Edgar nominee and has been optioned for a movie. I recently finished a new true crime, Death Dealer, that takes place in Miramichi, New Brunswick, that I was led to by Lt. Pat Dorian of the Maine Warden service. My Joe Burgess series continues in Feb. 2012 with Redemption. I've retired from Level Best Books, after editing and publishing seven crime story anthologies. I am a former Maine Assistant Attorney General and was international president of Sisters in Crime. I'm active in the New England chapter of Sisters in Crime, and am a founding member of the New England Crime Bake conference. I teach writing for Grub Street in Boston.
