| Introduction | I began writing in the late 90s, and 45 of my poems, short stories, and nonfiction articles were published in a variety of great magazines. My first picture book, STINK SOUP, was published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in 2004. I now have eleven picture books published and am looking forward to others currently in the pipeline. Coming this fall from National Geographic is a hardcover fiction/nonfiction mashup wherein the Angry Birds learn about animals around the world (as they search for their hidden eggs) called ANGRY BIRDS PLAYGROUND (with a really long subtitle not yet finalized). I'm a former instructor for the Institute of Children's Literature and lead a workshop at the University of Iowa's Summer Writing Festival, Picture Book Revision for Non-Celebrities. My picture book author friend, Linda Skeers, and I also co-host the Whispering Woods Picture Book Writing Workshop/Retreat each July. I wake up each day thankful that channeling my inner child to craft stories for kids can be called "work." |
