| Introduction | After 10+ years as a Southern Baptist seminary student and pastor in Marin County, California, I now live in Sonoma County with my wife and two daughters, where I work as an environmental engineer. My alma mater, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, is located just a few miles north of San Francisco, and life at this intersection of Red and Blue State cultures was thought-provoking, to say the least. And while folks at Golden Gate might find my current views irreverent and “liberal,” I consider my 35+ years in conservative Christianity to have been overwhelmingly positive—from my Southern Baptist upbringing to my years in Campus Crusade for Christ as an engineering student at the University of Tennessee. Still, I eventually found that I could no longer stomach many popular evangelical tenets (the Bible is inerrant, homosexuality is a sin, Darwin was full of crap, etc.). My blog tells a bit of the story. |
