Introduction Covering military stories as a veteran newspaper reporter have taken Cathy Scott to war-torn Somalia, to the Middle East and to Panama. And a concern for animal welfare took her away from her university position, as adjunct professor, to the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast, where she spent four months investigating for Best Friends Animal Society magazine and website the fates of pets left behind in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, which led to her book Pawprints of Katrina. But footprints left behind in crime cases also fascinate her, looking behind the story at clues that often lead to perpetrators. Her first book, The Killing of Tupac Shakur, was a Los Angeles Times bestseller and positioned her as a rap aficionado. She currently is working on her eighth book, this one for St. Martin's Press' True Crime Library, about a murder-for-hire case. Kirkus Reviews has called Scott's work "compelling and thorough." And Booklist has said of The Murder of Biggie Smalls, "For setting the record straight as well as for limning a major pop music star, this is a valuable book." Her last book, The Rough Guide to True Crime, was released in the US and UK in August of 2009.
