| Introduction | Dentistry Today is a patient education blog targeted at dental patients, dental students and health-conscious people interested in oral and dental health, and stomatology. Written in language the layman can easily understand, Dentistry Today is available on the Internet from any part of the world. With many new advances in dental techniques and materials, we believe the time is ripe for a dental blog targeted at patient education. A survey conducted by the Ministry of Health shows that many Malaysians regrettably avoid dentists, mostly out of fear. The cost of treatment, it should be noted, is not a major factor according to those surveyed. Indeed, dental fees in Malaysia are among the lowest in the Asia Pacific region. By simply explaining dental procedures and developments, we believe this fear of dentists can be eroded and that more Malaysians would seek early and regular dental treatment, thus avoiding the need for extensive, and perhaps expensive, treatment. Well-informed patients who know what to expect would suffer less anxiety about going to their dentists for regular check-ups. All this would go a long way in improving the oral health of the nation. |
