Introduction People are funny creatures. I'm a people watcher, a curious observer of life. I keep a small sketchbook with me to capture my ideas & observations; people & things that I find absurd, awkward or even heartbreaking. I'm interested in the profundity of the more mundane moments in life. I then take my little sketches & translate them into small works in acrylic & ink on heavy watercolor paper. I use both hands to draw and paint with; drawing with my left gives my work a loose feeling that’s difficult to achieve with my right hand. Color and texture are integral to my work, I start by under-painting & create by using multiple layers of jewel tone color combined with matte medium & ink. I like to paint small pieces because I think it captures the intimacy of each moment I’m attempting to capture. As far as influence my naive style draws on folk, outsider & children's work. I aim for a cartoon-like innocence wrapped up with a healthy dose of snarky irony. What I’m attempting to put on paper is raw emotion: love, hate, joy, regret, revenge, despair, failure, rejection, but especially hope.
