Introduction | My name is Gerald (Jerry) Minters. I was born in Los Angeles in 1949 at L.A. General Hospital to Albert and Helen Minters. I was the third son of a family of seven. I was born a twin, but only I survived the birth. Briefly, I was raised in Compton, California, dropped out of high school at 17 to join the Army. Went to Europe then to Viet Nam (received a Purple Heart). After the Army, became a seeker, but also, an extensive drug user (marijuana, hash, every kind of pill, heroin, opium and meth), petty criminal, want-to-be revolutionary and for the most part a very angry young black man. I joined the Soka Gakkai in 1973 and began my practice of Nichiren Buddhism. After 7 years doing my "Human Revolution" I came out on the correct path toward happiness and harmony with my entire environment (physical, mental and spiritual). Since then, I have been successful in raising a family, retired after a great career and continue to enjoy life to the fullest. |
