| Introduction | I am and have been all my life, at an age that I should know better. I was born in Meriden and brought up in Moseley, Birmingham, neither of which smelled of the great outdoors, but were a great incentive to seek it. I went to Aberystwyth University, and after my degree went 'native', making a living from the sea, moorland and forestry. I have four children, all as grown-up as they chose to be. I am proud of them all. I now live in Pembrokeshire, in the Clydach valley, in an unimaginably beautiful and powerful place. This valley makes me realise the gift I have of living on this earth. I make wooden things to sell, and have a deepening surety with woods, feeling like their envoy in a culture dangerously abstracted from their wisdom and resources. This coast too is giving me a simple stage to strut on, paddle in hand, and order my thoughts. |
