| Introduction | I became baptized Christian, along with my granddaughter, on New Year’s Eve, 2001. Since I am 59, I think of myself as a new Christian. Since she is 15, she undoubtedly thinks she has been a Christian forever. I am also a post-modern, emergent Christian, for whatever those terms mean. To me, they mean I retain influences of the Tao and Zen Buddhism that help me follow the way of Jesus. I like the works of Brian McLaren. And I retain the influences of a book I read three decades ago: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig. |
