Introduction Smectymnuus was the name of a Presbyterian group that wrote a few pamphlets in the 1640s. The letters derive from the initials of the authors. I am an atheist, and perhaps an anti-theist as well. I wrote my MA dissertation at the University of Durham on the invention of tradition in York and Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the period 1700-1750. I am particularly interested in the built environment and the use of architecture for the construction/destruction of memories/traditions. I hope to pursue this topic further in academia.
