| Introduction | Well what can I say, I have always known I wanted to be a scientist although other activities have influenced me along the way like ballet, art and business. I at some point wanted to be an astronaut and go into space for some major exploration mission, hence me studying Astrophysics and Space Sciences for my undergrad education in Florida. However, I ended up worried for our own planet and decided to study our own Earth's atmosphere for graduate school. Meanwhile knowing I wanted to have those three little letters after my name "PhD", I decided to pursue my doctorate in Atmospheric Physics at UMBC with a focus on studying surface air quality with satellites. Along my journeys in education, I married my husband, Robbie, in 2007 who has supported me throughout this process. My PhD is dedicated to him as well as my parents and sister who have done everything possible to support me in all my endeavors. Soon I will be Dr. Debra Kollonige but in the meantime I will be working my *** off to finish my thesis this year. |
| Interests | Currently keeping in shape with Insanity and Zumba, used to dance in ballets and still wish I could, love to paint and do arts and crafts (using the right side of my brain), see music concerts, attend as many baseball and football games as possible including O's games (vs Yanks mostly), Ravens and PSU games too, selling items in my Ebay store, and finally learn as much as I can about my research and climate change policy |
| Favorite movies | My all time favorite movie has to be either Dumbo (childhood favorite) or Gone With the Wind, Harry Potter Series, Blindside, anything involving XMen or Marvel super heroes, Disney Movies including Lion King and Bambi, anything with Leonardo diCaprio (I know lol), and Bridget Jones movies |
| Favorite music | I like to listen to everything from rock and country to rap and pop: NIN, Green Day, Incubus, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney, Zack Brown Band, Eminem, Kanye West, Beatles, Bee Gees, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Nickelback, and Lady Gaga to name a few |
