| Introduction | For some reason, the letters get lodged in my lungs. The words simply will not climb their way up and out of my esophagus. They block my airway, attempting to silence my voice. But when I can exhale, they seep their way into my muscle and sinew, gathering pieces of my heart on their journey as they work their way down and out through my fingertips. Sometimes they slide out slowly, taking time to form and hold their shape, a soothing cadence of composition. At other times they march as if at war, stomping out across the pages, the warcry deafening. Who needs lungs when you have fingers? |
