| Introduction | I'm an amateur gerontologist (do you like me better now?) who lives in Northern California with my wife Kate (who's a food and travel writer). I grew up in Canada, where I couldn't skate worth a damn and felt marginalized by my dislike of Margaret Atwood. I went to Stanford for my PhD, learned all about Derrida, got a job and settled down to a life of scholarly exertions, only to find that nobody cares about my dissertation topic (The Oedipus Myth in Modern British Literature). So much the better. I've decided to write more poetry and fiction instead.
