| Introduction | When I started my genealogical search in 2008 I knew what "mix" I was (Irish, Ashkenazi Jewish, Bohemian, German, possibly Polish). In other words, a typical Chicago Melting Pot Ingot, a mutt from the City of Broad Shoulders. Actual names of great-grandparents? Just two. Names of the birth parents of my father, who was adopted in infancy? Nope. But with fanatical sleuthing, some DNA testing and serendipity I've been able to discover 4th ggps on several of my lines, who the birth mother was and the ancestry of the birth father, if not his actual name -- yet. If I can branch out this dysfunctional family tree I believe most people can. |
