About the name: By the 16th century Spain had conquered most of the Americas, ships laden with treasure would return to the mother country, these ships were routinely targets of ferocious and daring pirate attacks. The Americas that belonging to Spain were collectively called The Spanish Main. Spain herself was looting this treasure, enslaving the native people and committing acts of barbarity, the pirates were just doing what they knew best. Stealing stolen goods from fellow thieves! The stock market is just the modern incarnation of "The Spanish Main", hence the name. |
