| Introduction | A.G. Wilson was an Irish/British policeman who had been sent on assignment to patrol the diamond mines in Transvaal, South Africa. In 1914 he was on vacation traveling through Europe with his sisters when World War 1 broke out Alec Wilson was detained by the Germans who incarcerated him as a Prisoner of War in the Ruhleben Concentration Camp. In 1916 A.G. Wilson became the President of the Ruhleben Irish Players. A. G. Wilson Papers contain letters, postcards and images, plus an original copy of The Ruhleben Irish Players book published by J. S. Preuss Printer by Appointment to the Royal Court Berlin S, Dresdenersir. 43 which are all in good condition, although two cards are beginning to fade, having been written in pencil. It is evident that Alec Wilson’s sisters were teachers at a girls’ school in Dublin. © Narelle Marie McDonald 2013 |
