About me

Occupation Retired
Location Cedros Horta, Azores, Portugal
Introduction Ian started sailing with his parents when still too young to walk and built himself an Optimist dinghy when he was about 10. He got his skipper's certificate at 16 and started building his first keel boat when he was 19. He had one of the first hang gliders in South Africa, moved on to microlights and also flies model planes. For many years he earned a living delivering yachts across the oceans, skippered a charter catamaran in the Caribbean, worked on narrowboats on the English canals, then finally settled on the island Faial in the Azores with his wife, Sian, where they bought a big game fishing boat and started their own business helping people realise their dreams of catching (and releasing) blue marlin and other large pelagic fish. For the past 9 years Ian and Sian have spent many months each year cruising the canals of Holland, Belgium and France. Now it's time for a new chapter. “Nuts” is the 4th and smallest keelboat he is building from plans.
