| Introduction | My experience runs from the academic reference desk, to running a medium size law firm library, to maintaining a regional office for an international law firm. This experience runs more than 20 years. During that time basic research tools have changed dramatically and cost has risen significantly. To keep cost down a good researcher knows when to use commercial services and when to use free services. This sensitivity to cost is important and one that I keep in mind.
