| Introduction | I am the Senior IT Strategist for Intermountain Healthcare’s Clinical Genetics Institute. I am responsible for creating computer systems that will support healthcare providers in delivering genetics-based clinical care. At the top of my list is building standardized, enterprise-wide family health history applications that do patient risk stratification. I am also working on developing electronic genetic test result messages that can be received from a lab and stored in the patient’s electronic health record. The real value of both applications is, with collecting structured data, the computer can provide clinical decision support messages for the physician. On the national and international levels, I participate with the Dept. of HHS American Healthcare Information Community’s Personalized Medicine and the HL7 Clinical Genomics workgroups. |
