Introduction A little bit about the study. I started listening to punk rock in about 1986 or 1987 (while I was in middle school). By the time I graduated high school I was immersed in what most would consider the "punk scene", listening to every band I could get my ears around and actively involved in both music performance and zine journalism. While in college my grades were... okay, in most respects. But I excelled in my American government and political science classes. In class discussions my contributions were often examples from the more politically charged bands I listened to. Whether I agreed with the artist's position or not, I always listened critically, attributing my interest entirely to the punk culture I loved (and still do). So this got me thinking, are fans of punk culture MORE likely to be politically minded then fans of other genres and if so to what degree has this exposure helped form their political mindset? Currently I work at Winthrop University as a researcher in their political science department.
Interests The Sex Pistols, the Clash, Dead Kennedys, D.O.A, TSOL, the Circle Jerks, and the Misfits were my primary bands initially.
