IntroductionI'm a life-long learner who loves to play outdoors and then go inside and write about it. When I'm not playing outside, writing or spending time with my family and friends, you can find me volunteering for the Texas Children in Nature Network--an organization that believes children who play and learn in nature are happier, healthier, and smarter. Most of my professional career has been in higher education as a student affairs administrator, adjunct professor, and researcher. My last position was as a director of a non-profit teacher learning center: supporting and inspiring teachers to use the outdoors as a classroom.

Favorite booksRichard Louv's Last Child in the Woods because he reminded me of the importance of nature in my life, Geneva Gay's Culturally Responsive Teaching because she made me a better teacher, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series because she inspired my creativity, Sheila Hamanaka's All the Colors of the Earth because she provides a wonderful example of blending words and art, Marcus Pfister's The Rainbow Fish for reminding me that happiness comes not from what we have but from what we give away.
