| Introduction | My interest in the Gesneriaceae goes back forty or more years. It became an obsession in the 1980’s when I built a greenhouse attached to our home. We ran a small mail order business providing gesneriads, Passiflora, and other unusual plants for many years. Eventually we ceased growing gesneriads and gardening in general, succumbing to the demands of career, family, and other life needs. But the interest never waned. As I approached retirement, I dusted off an old light stand and began growing gesneriads once again. After a two-decade break, the passion has returned in force. I’ve added a couple more light stands — alas no greenhouse this time. I love talking about and sharing these wonderful plants. I even keep a photo journal of my plants on my iPhone to show to whoever will listen. This blog will serve as another outlet for my rambling. |
