| Introduction | I am a poet who lives in East Lansing, Michigan. I teach creative writing at Michigan State University. My chapbook, The Sultan, The Skater, The Bicycle Maker, won The Ledge Press 2011 Poetry Chapbook Competition and was released in November. Another manuscript, Apple Season, won the Midwest Writing Center's 2012 Chapbook Contest, judged by Shane McCrae. Apple Season will be published later this year. I graduated from Albion College and also studied at the University of Stirling in Scotland. For ten years, I worked in the orchestra field, serving as public relations manager for the Grand Rapids Symphony and, later, as director of communications for the Lansing Symphony Orchestra.
