About me

IntroductionDeparture Date - Aug. 2, 2010. Mission - a motorcycle trip from Edmonton to the Arctic Circle to write about the fascinating people, places and history of Canada's North. Stops along the way include The Jack London Museum/Robert Service Cabin in Dawson City while exploring the breathtaking landscape of Alberta, Northern BC, The Yukon and NWT. From wild-eyed gold prospectors to fearless bush pilots and men driven crazy by the loneliness of this remote and unforgiving land - Canada's north is rich in history that is ripe with stories of colourful characters. One story in particular must be told - and is really the inspiration for this road trip - the amazing tale of the Mad Trapper of Rat River (Albert Johnson) and the role Canadian WW 1 Flying Ace Wop May played in capturing Johnson. ** The RCMP asked for May's help after Johnson led them on a grueling 48 day chase through treacherous terrain and minus 50 temperatures in the Eagle Plains area during the early winter of 1932. It was the first aerial manhunt in Canadian history. **
