| Introduction | I am the mother of three children and am currently searching for ways to bring an income to me whilst I care for my growing family. My eldest child has Cornelia De Lange. It is quite a rare syndrome. The consequences of her inabilities are impacting more and more on us all as she grows older. My youngest child has borne the brunt of my being busy trying to create a life of future independence for us all as my eldest daughter reaches post school age. I have found myself using my studies to get him up to scratch with school work rather than using that hard earned certificate of graduation toward employment outside of the home environment. Happily, my middle child is thriving in amongst all of this adversity and recently got an A in her maths exam. I am very proud of all of my children but the confines of home can be a prison of loneliness when caring for someone with a clinical disability. I hope to share with you some of the ways I am aiming to broaden my horizons outside of the confines of my home in an attempt to broaden who and what I can consider to be immediate community. |
