| Introduction | I am a fascinated observer of the shift from prosperity to austerity that is underway in America. Although I am alarmed by the very real pain that we will suffer individually and nationally, I wonder whether today's economic avalanche could rearrange our lives and our culture in ways that will ultimately be beneficial. Are we headed for a more equitable economy? Some different measures of wealth and status? A more responsible government? A broader level of civic engagement? Let's talk about it. |
