IntroductionAs part of the Anti-Tehri Dam struggle, we felt that the issue of displacement had been left out and there was no active organisation that spoke out about and worked for the towns, the villages and the people affected by the Tehri Dam. So, Matu Peoples' Organisation was formed to raise the issues important to the Tehri Dam affected people. It was formed as a group, and not as a registered organization, in November 2001 with the support of Tehri Dam affected villagers. Matu is a local word meaning ‘soil’. Our aims:- • Working for the communities’ rights over natural resources and livelihood. • Working to save the environment. • Campaigning, Lobbying and Advocating the rights of the communities who are getting displaced due to the onslaught of Big Dams in the Uttarakhand State of India. • Constructive work for the welfare of the dam affected community. We have published 18 Books ( Dastavez). On youtube see our films just type--Bandh katha--- For detail contact us at: matujansangthan@gmail.com
