| Introduction | lived in New York City from 1978 until 2010. Born and raised in Brooklyn (Coney Island/Brighton Beach), he attended college at Fordham University in the Bronx, followed by graduate school at NYU in the village. From 2004-2010, he lived in East Harlem, where he met his wife, Leana Amaez. They now live in Brunswick, Maine with their children. He is a US historian and he teaches in the Africana Studies Program and History Department at Bowdoin College. |
| Interests | My research and teaching interests broadly encompass all aspects of United States history. Specifically, I focus on the histories of African Americas, cities, racism and violence, labor relations and social movements. I've written on the Civil Rights and Black Power movements in New York. I am looking to expand these general interests into more global approaches to questions about urban inequality and progressive political movements for social and economic justice. |
