| Introduction | The Warmth and Movement of Wood is seen and felt in every sculpture. This combination speaks to Bob as he creates one-of-a-kind works of art from all manner of woods in his Southern Colorado studio. Bob began creating tikis from driftwood in the late 1950’s, while he was in the Navy. The medium didn’t satisfy him, so he moved on to larger pieces of wood, such as Cottonwood, Cedar, Basswood, and various exotic woods. One of his favorite woods is Bristlecone Pine, which he and his wife, BB, collect from the mountains of Colorado. “Bristlecone Pine is aromatic finely grained and full of that warmth and movement that inspire me,” Bob says. Bob may take several years to study a piece of wood before he begins sculpting. He relies on the wood to guide him and define its final appearance. “Often the subject of a piece changes after I get inside it and feel the grain and contours which suggest the subject,” says Bob. From studies of the female form, to animals large and small, each piece begs to be touched. "It's hard to resist stroking a wood sculpture," he says.The Hahns display much of Bob’s work at his studio and gallery just a short drive south of Pueblo, Colorado. |
