Introduction	I'm a professor of German history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A college physics/computer science major, after studying abroad I switched subjects and got an M.A. in history of art in Germany. I then went on to get a Ph.D. in history, writing about the history of the Dachau concentration camp after 1945.
