IntroductionBorn in Dublin. Landed in NYC in 1984. Visiting a friend dying of AIDS in St. Vincent's Hospital left me with a desire to be a Nurse- Worked as a critical care RN in the Burn ICU for 7 years. Was there for survivors of 9/11. I learned the best way to counteract evil is to do good. Left on my first mission with MSF in march 2005 worked in a small hospital in rural Burundi. Went to Chad in 2007 to run a clinic for Internally Displaced People. Then I settled into my first role as a Nurse Practitioner in Palliative Care in a NYC hospital. I left once again and did two missions to the Central African Republic(CAR). The first mission was supervising testing of sleeping sickness in the population in the north. In between missions I studied for and was awarded a Diploma in Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. The second mission was also to CAR, this time to do outreach nursing to an isolated population ravaged by the violence of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Currently I am returning to practice Palliative Care in NYC with a new team and a new challenge. I maintain my links with MSF and try to go "where the sun shines" spiritually.
