Introduction Description: The focus of my Senior Research project is Environmental Psychology. I am studying the ever changing and oh so important relationship between humans and their environment, as well as the role of sustainable communities in the progression of America. For all of February and March, I will work with a local group out of the University of Arizona: The Drachman Institute (www.drachmaninstitute.org). The Drachman Institute works with schools, churches, and neighborhoods. They help the communities define their local assets, recognize local leaders, and take action toward the fulfillment of their dreams. I will be in New York for the month of April studying green initiatives taking place in the city, as well as community focused organizations. I am interested in how outside sources motivate communities to want change, to desire sustainability, and to implement progress. I hope to learn how an environmental movement can encompass all of America while simultaneously embrace racial, economic, and aesthetic diversity. Though I am focused on the environmental urban movement, I am interested in all community-focused initiatives.
