| Introduction | I was the Vice President of Sales of New Wave Research Inc. until the company was acquired by ESI Inc. a listed company in USA. in 2007. I have been in Regional Sales and Marketing jobs for the past 30+ years. I lived 3 years in Hong Kong, 6 years in Taipei and most recently 4 years in Shanghai before returning to Singapore in late 2007. As I managed the global sales operations, the only way to be close to market situations was to be there physically to have face-to-face meetings with customers. This is one sure way to cultivate good rapport and working relationships with customers. Customers appreciate your flying 5,000 miles to meet with them.. So, annually I clocked more than 100,000 air miles just to accomplish this goal. One of the challenges for long haul air travel was to deal with jetlag. How do you arrive at your destination and adapt your body clock so that you can get to work immediately? This is an art. It takes years of practice to perfect it. It is not easy but it can be done. In the past 10 years, I spent more time abroad than in Singapore. So now that I am done with work related travel, do I still want to travel, you might ask. You bet!! |
