| Introduction | Born, raised, and still living in Chicago, Illinois, I am a survivor of childhood sexual violence and a social entrepreneur. My biological father sexually abused me from about the age of five until I turned 13. During one of the darkest times of my life after the abuse, I lived at the YMCA in the Gold Coast in a room the size of a large, walk-in closet and worked as a security guard in a River North condo building. One YWCA counselor saved me from my suicidal thoughts, and another helped me begin my healing journey by encouraging me to go on a writer's retreat for women. By the grace of God, they saved my life, and I am forever grateful! |
