| Introduction | When I was about 13, my life was filled with joy and excitement. I was an awkward looking girl. Standing 5'10 at age 13 wearing big glasses didn't put you on the popular team. But when I went home I was a hero to my sisters and brother. I often sat in the window and dreamed. I picked flowers in the garden with my mother. I watched her vegetables grow and tasted them from time to time. I lived in a small home with only 2 bedrooms for all 6 of us. I felt like the "Queen Bee" because I got to sleep in the top bunk alone. As a church girl I prayed often. I wanted to succeed in life and to give back to my parents who sacrificed so much for their kids. My life was like a fairy- tale to me. I had hot breakfast every day and hot dinner every night. We went out when we could and spent time playing together as a family. It was the best childhood I could ever imagine. The challenges of life felt enormous to me but the business world was so inviting. Now I am a professional lady still feeling great about life, loving my husband and my family even more today than I did back then. |
