Introduction Jeanette Arax Melnick is an artist whose unique style plays with perspective and with vivid colors and patterns reflecting medieval Armenian manuscripts. (Current project: a calendar for the New Jersey Wind Symphony.) Her painting is on the cover of "The Ash Tree - a novel" by her husband, Daniel Melnick. The novel is about a family of Armenian-Americans, from 1915 to the early 1970s, is being published April 24, 2015, on the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. Daniel's 2004 novel "Hungry Generations" (also with a cover painting by Jeanette) is about the encounter between a young composer in L.A. in the 70s and the family of a great virtuoso pianist, who knew Schoenberg and Stravinsky there in the 40s. Also, there's my critical book on modern fiction and music, "Fullness of Dissonance" (1994), as well as various stories and articles in print. Current projects: "The Fall of the Berlin Wall" (a novel and continuation of "Hungry Generations"), "Pathological States" (a novel about Los Angeles and a physician's family), "A Burnt Offering" (about Israel), and "Listening to Beethoven" (non-fiction).
