Introduction	Who is Taran Wanderer? Taran is a character in the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander. Think of Prydain as Lord of the Rings light. Instead of a furry-footed hobbit from an obscure corner of Middle Earth. Prydain has an obscure Assistant Pig-Keeper named Taran. Each series begins with mundane characters living on the edge of society. You grow to like them and only at the end realize that they've become key players in the world-altering battle between good and evil. In Book IV (Taran Wanderer)he sets off to find himself. Aong the way he becomes an apprentice to several craftsman: weaver, blacksmith, potter. In the first two, he shows exceptional skill, but finds them unfulfilling. At the potter's wheel he truly believes he could be satisfied, but alas the skill is not in him. This section haunts me. What do you do if you are best at things that give you no joy and worst at those you most value? I think this question best exemplifies the bond I feel with Taran. So with a free-floating journal about life and ideas and values, Taran Wanderer it is.
