| Introduction | I have a 20-year-old daughter named Chika to whom I owe my passion for cooking. When I married my husband, I had no idea of what ingredients to put into those pans. But thanks to my mum who was an absolutely talented cook and hours spent experimenting, I can now say that ‘tho not great, I certainly know my way in the kitchen. My best critic's undoubtedly my daughter. At 6 she’s already capable of giving compliments “Mi, enak banget! Lebih enak daripada restoran X!” I won’t say which restaurant it is, as I don’t want them to get out of business hahaha.. When Chika was in school, I brought her a hot lunch with a menu that varied daily. She told me that her teacher used to anxiously wait for her to open her lunch box. At one point her teacher could not shake her appetite away and gave up to temptation by asking, “Chika, ibu boleh nyicip ga?” I cooked ‘most every day and there’s always a new dish that became a surprise. If I skipped just a day, trust me, you’d too like to squeeze the disappointment out of Chika’s face. Picking her up at school, her first words would be “Hari ini mami masak apa?” and she’d insist to try to guess it! It’s a great fun and it made my day :) |
