| Introduction | I'm from Rome, Italy. I've been living in York for two years with my family since I was awarded a Marie Curie fellowship at the Department of History at the University of York. I'm an early modern historian. My research project is on the diplomatic career of Gian Pietro Carafa (future pope Paul IV) in England and Spain between 1513 and 1519. Indeed, Gian Pietro Carafa has become quite an obsession for me (and for my family, I'm afraid…). The lack of documents about him have transformed my study into a real challenge because he is one of the most important popes in the history of the Roman Church. He was also the first prefect of the congregation of the Holy office (also known as the Roman Inquisition), which was one of the more dark pages of history. My other interests are the intersections between politics and religion, the foundation of the catholic new religious orders, the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation. I'm also fascinated by the relationship between history and art. Apart from history, I love travelling, cooking, hiking and my beloved Roma. |
