IntroductionWhy Food and Music? I marvel at the amount of time and effort put towards the pairing of foods and the perfect wine. I watch people sniff and swirl, sip and swirl. They examine the color, comment on the "notes", and discuss its origins. It's a totally foreign concept for me to grasp, being a non-drinker of alcohol. In order to graduate from culinary school, though, I had to learn the basics. For cooking with wine I stick to the basic pairing of beef/red wine and chicken and fish/white wine. I let the description on the bottle from the winery guide me and it’s served me well so far! What I do feel fairly competent in, however, is choosing the right music for the situation at hand, creating an atmosphere that brings the moment full circle - much like the wine's role in completing the palate. The right song can make you suddenly think you're a mexican mama making pork tamales 'para tu familia.' It makes the time fly and they even taste better! Have to make something with tedious and methodical steps? Think of something mellow and calming yet elevating - something that makes you feel brilliant. It works - just wait and see . . .
