| Introduction | I was born in Alston, Cumbria and raised in Newcastle by my mum in a single-parent family. My grandfather and both great-grandfathers on my mother's side were miners. I won a fee-assisted place to Newcastle RGS, and appreciate more than anyone the difference in life a good education makes. After school I went on to Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard Law School where I obtained a first class degree in Law, a Master degree in Economics and Politics, and a Masters degree in Law. I work as a barrister, and my wife and I have two fantastic kids, the eldest of whom was born at Hexham General Hospital. I’m the only one of the main party candidates to be North East "born and bred". |
