| Introduction | This blog is maintained by Curro Checa Romero, Director of Studio Idealyc, an Architectural + Design practice based in London. Curro founded Studio Idealyc during his MA Architecture at Royal College of Art (RCA), and on the back of his first public commission The Hut at Spa Fields, London EC1. Situated between Grade I Finsbury Health Centre by Modernist architect Lubetkin, and Grade II Holy Redeemer Church, by John Dando Sedding, the community pyramidal hub of copper construction formed part of a million pound project to overhaul Spa Fields. In 2008 Spa Fields was recognised at the London Planning Awards, where it was commended in the category for Best Community-based Planning Initiative. The Hut was singled out by the Copper Association as a good use of copper construction, and forms an important milestone in the design trajectory of Studio Idealyc. The project is a demonstration to the testimony and ethos that is the driving force behind Studio Idealyc, where poetry and architecture are fused to respect the site yet act as an innovation to material and design, and improving the lives of the people who come in contact with the building, whether public or private space. |
