|Occupation||Writer / Editor|
|Introduction||Born in Boston, England, I moved to Melbourne in 1986 and have lived there ever since. My poetry has been published in a range of print and online journals in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and US. I've also performed my work on radio, at spoken word events around Melbourne, and at various festivals, including the Melbourne Writers Festival, Overload Poetry Festival, This is Not Art and the Montsalvat Festival of Poetry and Song. In 2008 I completed an MA at Deakin University, where I teach writing and editing. In 2006 I was awarded a mentorship through the Australian Society of Authors, which I undertook in 2007 with Dorothy Porter, who remains a major inspiration, and is greatly missed.|

Which do you prefer and why: whittling with soap or whistling with wood?
I prefer writing with sponge and scissors, because it keeps me awake. Osip Mandelstam: “The people need poetry that will be their own secret / to keep them awake forever.”
