| Interests | For most of my life I've been a city girl. Nowadays, I live in a semirural area northwest of Houston, Texas, near the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds and the quirky town of Magnolia. Vast cornfields and longhorn ranches aren't far away. It seems I've always had a fascination with words and publications, and my career (cut short mostly due to health-related issues) revolved around the same. I've been writing poetry for a number of years now; my first tanka, or "tanka-like poems, " were published in late 2005. Since then, except for a significant break or two along the way to take care of life, I've been concentrating on that form. I suspect, and even kind of hope, I'll always be a beginner. UPDATE (Jan. 2014): I'm now on the board of the Tanka Society of America (TSA) as vice president. |
