| Introduction | During my 70+ years, I have been a wordsmith for newspapers and magazines, an instructor of English and history for college and high school students, a football coach for young people from fourth grade through the senior year of college, a person who spent many hours improving his community, a musician of sorts, and now — a blogger. My roots can be traced to the small town of Lilly, Pa., in Western Pennsylvania. I have studied at The Pennsylvania State University, as an undergrad and grad, and have also done graduate work at Villanova University and St. Francis College [now University]. I graduated from Lilly-Washington High School, which was a delightful small school that I thoroughly enjoyed. That experience made me believe in the infinitesimal educational value of small schools and small classes. Granted, PSU was not small, but for the elementary and high school experience, smaller is better. After spending 70 years in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic area, I have moved to the Upper Midwest, which has necessitated some changes. However, being never family has been the positive part of that experience. |
