| Introduction | I'm originally from Northern Ireland, but now live in Thailand, in the stunning southern province of Krabi, close to the Andaman Sea. I live with my Thai husband, Maew, and our son, Gurt (4). Back home, I worked in magazine journalism. I loved my role interviewing celebs and touring the country to cover events and openings, but on a trip to Thailand I discovered new, intriguing depths of culture. And I was hooked. My newfangled obsession with South East Asia led me back to the blackboard, and to a sea of wide-eyed Thai students. After an exciting and daunting spell as a TEFL teacher in Sri Racha (Central Thailand), I headed southwards and returned to my writing. After spending the last eight years immersed in this vibrant culture, I feel like I'm travelling along an infinite learning curve. One with speeding motorbikes, cars and lorries driving on the wrong side and families of five on one bike. It isn't the safest road in the world, but it's very familiar. And that pretty much sums up my life here. |
