Introduction I came back from Spain to live in Oxford at the end of 2005. Since then I have been horrified by what the planning department in Oxford has been doing to this beautiful city. Firstly they seem to be promoting blocks of flats on what was an essential boatyard in Jericho for boaters on the Oxford Canal to repair their affordable homes in. Now they are promoting a massive expansion of the Westgate Centre. What next? So I was called to a protest about the Westgate Centre and looking at this stunning London Plane tree that was about to be cut down and the clouds parted: the workmen put a ladder up against it to begin cutting its limbs off, the policemen guarding the fence moved away and I ran for the fence, jumped it and I was up the ladder before anyone could take it away. I stayed there for three days. It seemed like a good idea at the time and every day that this continues it seems like a better one. I didn't come back from Spain to see Oxford ruined by idiots in front of my eyes - death by a thousand cuts. I should like to see Oxford become one of the foremost Eco Cities in the world and intend to do as much as I can to ensure that it becomes one.

How much of Oxford do the planning department have to ruin before we replace them with people who actually care about our quality of life and not simply profit?
