About me

IntroductionI have begun this blog to help keep my interest in TEFL up in a new way, though I have been actively teaching English for some time. I came to Japan in 1997, first living and working in Ibaraki (Tsuchiura, then Tsukuba), moving to Chiba (Kashiwa) in 2004 after getting married. In 2007 we moved to Tokyo-to (Nerima-ku), and I have been living here and working mainly in Tokyo and Saitama-ken ever since. In teaching and research, I'm interested in vocabulary organization and adult language learning, as well as how to bring young adult learners into greater autonomy and independent learning. I also have become fascinated with TEFL conference organization and how it can be done better, and with greater cost-effectiveness. Bringing teachers together involves a lot of the same skills as bringing learners together, and while I can't say I do it perfectly, it's something I'm interested in learning more about. I also continue to study and use Japanese - imperfectly, but with greater interest, and with a sense that lifelong language learning and acquisition is a worthy goal. From time to time, I hope to place Japanese content on this blog, for my own efforts at Japanese language use.
