My blogs
Introduction | I'm UB Distinguished Professor of History at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. I've written five books, mostly dealing with French social and cultural history; the most recent are The European Nobility, 1400 –1800 (Cambridge University Press, 1996) and Lost Worlds: The Emergence of French Social History, 1815–1970 (Penn State University Press, 2006). I also edited Europe, 1450–1789: Encyclopedia of the Early Modern World, 6 vols. (Charles Scribner’s Sons, 2004). Right now I'm completing a book on the early-seventeenth-century French duke Henri de Rohan and the circle around him. (For a complete list of publications and some recent papers, see my entry at academia.edu.) This blog is meant to accompany my course on early modern Europe at the University at Buffalo. |
