Introduction Kathy Waghorn works across art, architecture and urbanism. Her last project in this part of Auckland involved a close empirical study of informal urbanism at Avondale Racecourse, mapping the events that currently occur there (horse racing, pigeon racing, dance lessons, bingo, soccer, cricket and the weekly flea and produce market to name just a few) then proposing a series of ‘inserted events’ occupying interstitial time and maximising use of this under recognized neighborhood amenity. Kathy is a lecturer in architecture at The University of Auckland and is carrying out a Phd through the RMIT School of Architecture and Design in Melbourne.
